I moved to Montpelier, Vermont, in the summer of 2014. At the time, Montpelier had a weird bike/recreation path that ran less than a mile between Main Street and Granite Street. There was another portion that ran from Taylor Street and across Bailey Avenue to Junction Road. That portion was maybe a mile and aContinue reading “11/11/19: Double Full Monty”

1/27/20: Training Update
Like the weather atop a mountain, conditions are changing rapidly on the leg front. Surprisingly, it seems mostly for the better! The plan leading up to Phoenix is to not run on consecutive days, so I can have some recovery time built in. And I’ve been keeping to that. My busy work schedule makes itContinue reading “1/27/20: Training Update”
1/20/20: Training Update
Today is 19 days to the Sprouts Mesa Half Marathon. As of a week ago, the longest I had run in training was 4.3 miles. I have a fairly aggressive plan to ramp up the miles, even though I have a potentially-injured leg. My plan involved limiting road miles as much as possible and buildingContinue reading “1/20/20: Training Update”
1/13/20: Training Update
Since getting the good news last Monday that my leg does not appear to be injured, I’ve resumed training for the half marathon in Phoenix. Perhaps someone more prudent than I would have sought advice for how to ease back in to it, but not I – I am winging my own plan. Mind, IContinue reading “1/13/20: Training Update”
1/6/20: Doctor visit and short run
Subsequent to my New Shoes post, I got spooked by some of the reading that Katie and I were doing about lower-leg injuries. My symptoms were starting to sound an awful lot like a stress fracture. Having seen the movie Brittany Runs a Marathon, I knew that stress fractures can derail one’s grandest objectives. IContinue reading “1/6/20: Doctor visit and short run”
New Shoes
December is a slow time of year for running in Vermont. There aren’t a lot of races because, well, it’s winter and the roads and sidewalks and trails are covered with snow and ice. Also, people are strapping skis to their feet and schussing through the woods and down the slopes. It’s the perfect timeContinue reading “New Shoes”
5/27/19: the Big Break
After the Corporate Cup I winged my way to Italy for a week’s vacation in Rome and Florence. When traveling, I look for AirBnB experiences, because they can be fun and interesting and you meet new people. There was one in Rome for a morning run around the Coliseum and other historical landmarks. I thoughtContinue reading “5/27/19: the Big Break”
I was never a runner
Ever. I loved playing sports as a kid; baseball, football, basketball. I got fat as an adult and then unfat. I like cycling and hiking and skiing. Not running. I moved to Vermont in 2014, and in 2015 took part in my first Corporate Cup. It’s a 5K race in Montpelier, running and walking divisions.Continue reading “I was never a runner”
What’s going on here?
I started running. I want to re-start writing. I also want to keep a log. So here we are!
